Try this Moist White Cake Recipe





This is a very moist white cake recipe. It is very simple to make, is foolproof and it taste so good!

I like to bake mine in a 9x13 dish and then smother it in chocolate pudding frosting....yum! You can, however be much more imaginative than me! Bake your batter into two 9" pans. Fill the middle with strawberries and creme Anglaise. Or then again, make a birthday cake and decorate it...whatever suits your fancy this white cake is sure to be a hit.

Note: In some of the comments, some visitors said they would like a cake which was a tad more moist. So I modified the recipe a little bit in order to achieve a cake which would be more to their liking. The second version is also included.

Ingredients for Best White Cake Recipe


  • 3 sticks butter - softened, 3/4 cup - no substitute

  • 1 3/4 cups white sugar

  • 6 egg whites - at room temperature

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour - sifted

  • 4 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoonsalt

  • 1 cup milk - at room temperature

  • 1 teaspoon almond extract

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon rum extract - optional, if not using double either the vanilla or almond extracts






Method for this Homemade White Cake Recipe

With a stand mixer - or a hand mixer - cream the butter and the sugar together. Add the egg whites, one at a time. Mix on high until your mixture is very light and creamy - about 5 minutes.

In a large bowl, place all the remaining dry ingredients and mix with a whisk until well combined. Set aside.

Add the flour to the butter-sugar-egg white mixture, add the milk and the extracts and combine until well blended but be careful to not over mix.

1) Place your batter into a greased and floured 9x13 baking dish and bake at 350 F or 45 to 55 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

2) You can also use two 9 inch cake pans which you have lined with parchment paper and greased. Bake at 350 F or 35 to 45 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool for a few minutes before unmolding. Cool completely before frosting.

Version 2


  • 2 sticks butter - softened, 1/2 cup - no substitute

  • 1/2 cup shortening

  • 1 3/4 cups white sugar

  • 6 egg whites - at room temperature

  • 4 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup milk - at room temperature

  • 1 teaspoon almond extract

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon rum extract - optional, if not using double either the vanilla or almond extracts



Cream the shortening, butter and sugar. Then follow the directions above.
