Easy Angel Food Cake Recipe

This is a very easy angel food cake recipe.

This basic angel food cake recipe is not only easy but delicious. And if you are watching you waist line then angel food cake is also a great alternative to other cakes as it contains no added fat. As a matter fact, a normal size slice has less than 100 calories! Topped with fruits, this homemade angel food cake makes a great - and light - dessert.

I made this recipe from the egg whites I had saved after making banana cream pies - 3 of them! Yum!

Easy Angel Food Cake Recipe

Best Angel Food cake: Ingedients

  • 1 cup flour

  • 3/4 cup sugar

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 12 egg whites

  • 3/4 cup sugar

Easy Angel Food cake: Method

In a medium size bowl, sift the flour, 3/4 cup of sugar and the salt. Set aside.

I use a stand mixer for this next step, but a hand mixer will work as well. In a large bowl, place the egg whites and the cream of tartar. Make sure there are no yolks at all in the eggs. Turn on high. When soft peaks start to form, add the other 3/4 cup of sugar 1/4 cup at a time and wait until it is well blended before each addition. Add the vanilla and almond extract. Stop the mixer.

Gently add the flour mixture a little at a time and gently fold it in the egg mixture with a spatula or wooden spoon.

Place your dough into a, ungreased tube pan, a Bundt cake pan or even a spring-form (this is what I like to use). Then, I usually, drop the pan repeatedly from about 3 inches high unto my counter. This will remove the air bubbles in the dough and help flatten the surface of your cake.

Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Let cool 5 to 10 minutes before running a knife on the outward edge and then gently try to unmold your cake. I find the spring-form so easy as all I need to do to unmold my cake is to run the knife around the edge and then undo the "buckle" of then spring-form and then slide off the sides of the pan. Easy as pie - or cake!
