Easter Bread Recipe
Or Brioche Recipe

This is supposed to be an Easter bread recipe. However, from the first time I tasted this buttery bread, I have wanted to call it a Brioche recipe.

Brioche is a delicious, sweet and buttery bread I ate as a child in France. It is so good! My brother used to slather his with butter and jam for breakfast.

If you like light, sweet breads, you will love this easy Easter egg bread no matter what you might want to call it.

I would be so delighted if you made a batch of this delicious Brioche and then came back to leave a review, a tip or a recipe of your own.

Easter Bread Recipe

Easter Bread Recipe Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup of warm water - about 105 degrees

  • 1 cup of warm milk

  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter melted - although salted will still work

  • 1/2 cup of sugar

  • 1 tsp of salt - if you use salted butter reduce this amount to 1/2 tsp

  • 4 1/2 tsps of active dry yeast

  • 3 large eggs

  • 4 cups of unbleached all-purpose flour

Easter Egg Bread Directions

I must first say that I make my dough with a stand mixer. In this case, this is a life saver as the dough will be very sticky and not soft and pliable like a bread dough.

If you make it by hand, you will have to work with a spatula to mix the dough.

First, dissolve the yeast in 1/4 cup of warm water. Wait until the mix bubbles and is foamy.

Add the sugar, flour, eggs, melted butter and milk. Mix until all the ingredients are well blended.

Again, if doing this by hand the dough will be very elastic and sticky.

Once it is well mixed. You can either:

  • Cover it with a plastic wrap and leave it in the fridge overnight
  • My preferred method is to cover the dough and let it rise for about an hour
  • Smear your hands in flour. This will help the dough not stick to your hands. Form little balls about 2 1/2 to 3 inches and place them in a large greased pan.

Leave about a 1/2 inch of space between the balls.

Let the dough rise another 20 to 30 minutes.

Bake at 400 degree for 10 to 15 minutes.

Serve with butter and maybe even a cup of homemade hot cocoa.
