Cookie Exchange Party Are So Much Fun!

Have you ever heard of a cookie exchange party? They are quite fun and also quite popular around the holiday season.

Indeed most of them occur as Christmas cookie exchange parties but don't you think they could be just as easily organized around other occasions such as baby showers, family gatherings, etc?

A cookie exchange party is a great way to get new cookie recipes and to share your favorite ones with others.

The fellowship with friends and family is wonderful and the cookies are just an added benefit.

How You Can Have a Successful Cookie Exchange Party

Here are some ground rules that will make it easier for you to organize a successful cookie exchange party:

  • One person must be in charge. This person will need to have a signup sheet which will serve two purposes:

1. Keep track of how many people want to participate...4 to 10 participants is a good number. If one person sends invitations then the hostess will need to keep track of RSVPs.

2. Keep track of who is making which cookie recipe so that you don't end up with all chocolate chip cookies for example.

  • Once you have determined how many people want to participate, everyone will need to make that amount of cookies - in dozens - plus one extra dozen.

For example: You have 6 ladies who want to participate so everyone will need to make 7 dozen cookies.
One dozen for each person to take home and one dozen to share. If 9 families want to participate you'll make 10 dozen, etc. Pretty simple once you get the hang of it.

  • All participants also need to bring the printed recipe with them to share.

That's all.

The Day of the Party

For fun, you may decide to have a pot-luck - or a tea party - with your cookie exchange party. Then again just getting together to enjoy the cookies is fine.

The day of the party, everyone should bring all their cookies already packaged:

One of your dozens, you will share with everyone at the party.

The rest of your dozens will be distributed to each participant - with the recipe.

If families participate rather than individuals, then each family will receive one dozen.

So for example, if you came with 7 dozens:

Everyone - including you - will get one dozen. The 7th will be shared.
You will go home with 7 dozens, one of your own - so that you did not bake just to give them away - and 1 dozen from each person who came.

Freezing Cookies

If you have too many cookies, know that you can freeze cookies very successfully. I have some family members - who will remain nameless - who love frozen cookies and would rather eat them that way than warm out of the oven!

I have never had an issue with cookies tasting awful or turning soggy when they have previously been frozen. I just usually place my cookies first in a Ziploc bag or an airtight container and then put them in the freezer. They should last about 3 months in the freezer...even though mine have never lasted that long...and I doubt yours would either!

Voila! Enjoy!

If you are in need of cookie recipes to try then why don't you visit the cookie recipe section?

And please if you have a cookies exchange party story, share it.
