Chocolate Pudding Frosting Recipe





This chocolate pudding frosting recipe is my all time favorite chocolate frosting. It is creamy, not overly sweet, not overpowering and a tad nutty. I love it.

You have the option of making it from store bought pudding or homemade. I have never made it with store bought pudding because making it with homemade pudding does not take any more time once you have made your pudding mix and that is not difficult nor time consuming. I believe it is be well worth it - and healthier as well.

You can use this frosting on cakes and cupcakes alike. But why don't you try it for yourself and then please, come back and leave a review. Do not underestimate the power of your input!

Pudding Chocolate Frosting Recipe: Ingredients


  • 1 1/4 cups milk - I use whole

  • 1/2 cup butter - softened

  • 1/2 cup shortening

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract






Pudding Chocolate Frosting Recipe: Method

In a medium size saucepan, place the pudding mix and the milk. Place your saucepan over medium to high heat and continually mix with a whisk. It will take about 5 minutes before your pudding thickens. Remove from the heat as soon as it does and let cool.

After the pudding is cooled, in a stand mixer bowl - or with a hand mixer - combine the pudding and all the other ingredients. Cream until the frosting is fluffy. Use right away.

The frosting will harden a little bit in the fridge.
