I had to come up with this recipe Christmas of 2009 when I could not find pumpkin puree anywhere! Plan B was to buy a pumpkin and to make the puree myself...only to find out that you cannot buy pumpkins in December! What? A Christmas without pumpkin pie and chocolate pumpkin bread? I was going to run into major opposition from some family members who shall remain nameless. I pondered...and then it came to me that I could maybe substitute the pumpkin with some sweet potatoes! Same consistency...flavor a tad different but mixed with other spices...should be a go don't you think? I am pleased to say that operation "homemade sweet potato pie" was a success!
