Who Am I?

My name is Florence and I was born and raised in France. However, I have called the United States home for well over 20 years.

I am married to the love of my life - who is a firefighter by profession - since 1993. We are parents to 10 children (8 by birth, one by adoption and one in heaven).

I am a stay-at-home mom and have been so since the birth of our first child.

Who I Am Not!

I am not a professional cook nor do I profess to be. I am just a wife, mother, friend, daughter, who enjoys cooking and sometimes just has to...my family does like to eat.

I did not learn to cook as a child but rather "fell" into it as an adult. I certainly was raised around "food" since - in France - meal time is quite a social event and a big part of the French culture.

What I do not like...

Dishes

Canned vegetables

TV dinners

Microwaves

Aluminum pots

Kitchen gadgets that do not work

Burned meals

etc.

What I like

I do enjoy many different foods from many different cultures:

Mexican

Chinese

Vietnamese

French

Italian

Good old American cooking

etc

Even though I did not learn to cook as a child, I watched my mother, aunt and grand-mother cook.

My grand-parents lived through World War I and World War II and were not wealthy. I never went to a restaurant with them. At "Mamie's" - or grand-ma - everything was always homemade, fresh and delicious.

I am also a cook that either cooks without recipes or modifies them...(for those who wonder, I don't read direction manuals either!). So the recipes are my own creations and I had to take careful notes so that you could recreate them in your own kitchen.
